Lee Roy Selmon's history combines the benefits of football scholarships and volunteerism in the community. One of the first things he did is to help his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children on an Eufala farm. He played second in football and was the third brother who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the United States by Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. In his time as the Oklahoma's quarterback of choice and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and captured two national titles. A third scholarship saw him named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned a degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service consisted of ten hours a week as a volunteer in college. Following graduation Lee Roy relocating to Tampa which is where he played for nine years playing for the Buccaneers. Three times, he was named All-Pro. Then he began his business career. In 1988, as an account relations officer at First Florida Bank of Tampa and worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Lee Roy in 1982 for being one of the top 10 youths in the US. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs a little over 256 lbs. He coached his university team in the year 1975. In 1993, Roy joined the university of south Fla's athletic department as the associate director. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame through The GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as in the Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Jr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
