
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18, 2000) is an American actress and singer. Her career spans more than 40 years. A torch-singer renowned for her sultry, languid contralto vocals, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 until 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry me a river" which she recorded was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her part as Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career began as an actress while she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's career as an actor of 35 years began in the film industry in 1944. It featured parts as the female lead in numerous westerns. In the mid-1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. Her final studio album was released in 1969. She continued her success as the female star role in the role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
